F.A.O. Schwarz Introduces ASPCA Line of Toys!
Release courtesy of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

New York (September 6, 1999) - The ASPCA recently formed an association with world-renowned toy retailer FAO Schwarz to offer the ASPCA Adoptables line of plush toys. This collection features four cute cats and five hugable dogs. They are of mixed breed designs to help promote the value and joy of adopting a mixed breed pet.

The plush toys are available in all FAO Schwarz stores, the FAO direct mail catalog and on-line at www.fao.com. Ten percent of the proceeds from The ASPCA plush collection will help fund programs for "real" animals in need.

Each plush toy features a fun yet informative hangtag that also acts as an adoption certificate, letting children know that this is a first step toward learning about the responsibility of owning a live pet. Information on how kids can join The ASPCA junior membership club is included, and complimentary copies of The ASPCA junior membership magazine Animaland are available in all FAO Schwarz locations.

To help kick off this unique association, a high profile media event was held on August 5th at the FAO Schwarz flagship store in New York City. The day began with a press conference that included longtime ASPCA supporter and friend of animals everywhere, Mary Tyler Moore. The new ASPCA animated public service announcement on spay/neuter, featuring The ASPCA spokespets Fremont the dog and Purrsilla the cat, was shown. Ms. Moore provides the voice for Pursilla and actor Matthew Broderick is the voice of Fremont.

A full day of activities took place, with animals from The ASPCA shelter available for adoption at the store and animal behaviorists on site to answer pet-related questions from the public. Information about ASPCA programs such as the Ani-Med toll-free, petcare hotline was available, and the ASPCA Care-A-Van mobile spay and neuter vehicle was on hand for tours.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. Today, the ASPCA has over 475,000 members and donors, and continues to prevent cruelty and alleviate the pain, fear and suffering of animals through nationwide education, awareness, legal and legislative programs. Additionally, The ASPCA operates a full service animal hospital, adoption facility, and Human Law Enforcement Department in its New York City headquarters. For more information about the ASPCA, visit their website at www.aspca.org.
