Dog & Kennel, Cats & Kittens and Bird Times are published
bimonthly. These magazines contain beautiful full-color photographs,
informative, authoritative and educational articles about
the species and their care. The articles are written to educate
and entertain the readers. In addition to articles on popular
species, we include human-interest stories. The magazines
contain columns dealing with training, questions and answers,
grief, horoscopes, snips of information from the Internet,
art and collectibles and special reports.
Photo
Needs
Color
photography of publication quality is required. Digital files
with a minimum resolution of 266 dpi are preferred.
We are
always looking for photographs of common pet birds such as
cockatiels, parakeets, lovebirds, canaries, finches, doves
and pigeons, and softbills--plus other exotics such as Amazons,
cockatoos and macaws. Natural or colored portraiture type
backgrounds are acceptable. Interactive people-bird shots
are needed. In addition to portrait-type shots, we have an
ongoing need for attractive photos of birds in household situations--in
their cage, on a playpen, eating, bathing, etc. as well as
clutches and baby birds in all stages of growth.
Photographs
of all breeds of purebred dogs, random bred dogs and rare
breeds in all life stages of growth from puppy through veteran
years. Photographs are needed of dogs performing tasks for
which they were bred, engaging in sports with their owners
or sports developed specifically for dogs such flyball, interactive
people-dog shots, portrait-type shots, attractive shots in
all types of situations. Photos may be of dogs alone, with
kids, adults and other dogs and animals.
Photographs
of all breeds of cats, pedigreed as well as non-pedigreed
in all life stages of growth from kitten through veteran years.

Photos may be of cats alone, with kids, adults and other cats
and animals.
All material
should be labeled with the breed of dog, cat or bird, the
telephone number, name and address of the photographer. Note:
photographer is responsible for correctly identifying the
breeds/species of dogs, cats or birds in the photos. Photographs
identified incorrectly in print due to photographers error
cannot be paid.
We prefer
to hold submissions on file for at least three months. Slides
and transparencies intended for future consideration will
be scanned to a CD-ROM and photographers' material will be
returned.

Submissions
for consideration may cover all aspects of dogs, cats and
birds including breed/species profiles, breeder-kennel profiles,
medical-technical articles, training, humorist, stories of
pet dogs, cats and birds that go to work with their owners,
heroic tales, etc.
The compensation
structure is 10 cents a word on the final edited published
word count, payable upon publication of the article. Short
articles are defined as 500 to 1,000 words, and features are
defined as 1,200 to 2,000 words.
Upon acceptance
of your article, you will be sent a contract for permission
to publish.
